Events in the Community

June 23rdSummer Reading Program Kickoff (10:00 am)

Our kickoff this year will be held at Martin Millennium Academy. Registration will begin at 10:00 am and our performer will begin at 10:30 am. Our performer this year is Magician Jeff Jones [www.magicnc.com/Magician_JEFF_JONES_919-593-4271/Index.html.html].  During the registration period, children will be able to visit with Dora the Explorer, Despicable Me Minions, and Mickey and Minnie Mouse! 

 

July 9th Vehicle Day (10:00 am)

  Please join us at Indian Lake Sports Complex as we explore the vehicles used by heroes in our communities, including fire, police and military vehicles.

 

July 15th Pamlico Joe and Clean Water Flow (10:30 am)

Join us at Martin Millennium Academy for a special performance by Pamlico Joe and Clean Water Flow [www.pamlicojoe.com] Fun for all ages. Come celebrate environmental heroes and develop positive character traits!

 

July 20thThe Ugly Duckling (10:30 am)

Bright Star Touring Theatre [www.brightstartheatre.com] will present a humorous version of Hans Christen Andersen’s classic tale, The Ugly Duckling, at Martin Millennium Academy, in recognition of the importance of traditional storybook heroes.

 

July 30th— Summer Reading Program Wrap-up Party (10:30 am)

The Summer Reading program will wrap up at Martin Millennium Academy with a special program by Cold Blooded Encounters, Inc. Reptile Zoo and Science Center [www.coldbloodedencounters.com].  Learn about the coldblooded heroes (and villains!) of the animal world as we focus upon heroes in the animal kingdom.  Prizes will be awarded to our top readers from each age category.

June 24th-July 30thEat Smart and Move, Move, Move with Yvonne Murphy

Join us for a 5 week nutrition camp providing innovative ways to help young people learn how to make wise choices that will be beneficial to their overall health. Each program will be tailored to a particular summer reading theme.  Please call the library at 252-823-1141 to sign up. There will be fun, games, and food tasting.
