Books:

Histories of North Carolina and North Carolina-related topics.  Our comprehensive genealogy section includes all published Edgecombe County sources, many published sources from surrounding counties,  and helpful how-to books. 

Periodicals:

Edgecombe County Genealogical Society's newsletter, Lines and Pathways of Edgecombe County;  The North Carolina Historical Review;  plus other local genealogical society newsletters.

Microfilm:

Edgecombe County census records and those of some surrounding counties; Tarboro's local newspaper, The Daily Southerner, from the early 1800s to the present; Sanborn maps of Tarboro; and more!

Online Sources:

Ancestry Library Edition is available for use in the library.  Heritage Quest Online is available in the library and is also available for remote access from the library's homepage by clicking the NC LIVE link. If your NC LIVE password has expired, just call the library and we will be glad to give you the new one.

Archival Materials:

Photographs, postcards, oral histories, and collections of papers of local groups such as the William Dorsey Pender chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Maps:

Of Edgecombe County and Eastern North Carolina for various years. Two maps are for sale, through the Edgecombe County Genealogical Society.  Click here for details

Genealogical Society:

The Edgecombe County Genealogical Society meets at 7:00 pm. in the Pender Room of the library every third Thursday except in July and December or in the event of a special meeting. The library is proud of its collaborative and mutually supportive relationship with the ECGS.
