| Lena Pennington Martin, a lifelong resident of Tarboro, was the daughter of Edward and Grace Pennington. Her father was a clerk and bookkeeper in Tarboro. In April of 1900 she was married to J. (Joseph) Frank Martin. During the early years of their marriage the newlywed couple lived with Frank's parents. Her father-in-law, Joseph J. Martin, was the Post Master at the time. By 1910, Lena and Frank had their own home and two children, J. Frank, Jr. and Grace. Lena was widowed in 1913, shortly after the birth of her third child, Edward. After Frank's death, Lena worked at the post office and by 1930 she was the assistant post master. Lena Martin died on November 16, 1950 at the age of 73. |
